The current GEOICE heat pump system is the thrid generation of ice rink refrigeration systems developed and applied by DSB Managment And Associates specifically for ice rink customers and delivers up to 7 energy units for every energy dollar spent. GEOICE works on the principle of thermodynamics. Rather than heating a space, we extract heat from the icerink floor and store the heat in geothermal boreholes as our ground source thermal energy storage battery. However, we typically design our ice rink systems to use 100% of the heat extracted in the facility or the process needs of the ice rink. This is accomplished through a series of tanks with various set points that once satsified by the reject heat are able to provide the comfort HVAC requirements of the common area, both Domestic and Resurfacing Hot Water, Ssnowmelt, and dehumidification preheat, etc., Our custom design enables the thermal battery storage or loop to maintain a 56 degree temperature enabling the sytem to function witout challenge and shine in both refrigeration and hot water production. Any excess heat is a waste of energy in our opinion and the indicator the of system not being optimized. From time to time there is more heat available than can be used and in that case it is expressed to atmosphere though our aerothermal units mounted outdoors.

Our most efficient geothermal heat pumps are water-to-water heat pumps, so called because they extract heat from the ground via wells and transfer it to the water circulating through the circuit pipes which are conteianed within the borehole system or loop and ultimately to the facility or process system.

Thanks to the high performance of geothermal heat pumps, we can multiply the value of electricity consumption by as much 4 or 7 times in ice production (depending on the external conditions and the installation), i.e., with 1 kW of electricity consumed we can generate 4 kW to 7 kW of thermal energy.
